ABOUT MICHAEL RUBENSTEIN
Long ago, when photography was scant an idea in Michael's mind he attended Prescott College in Arizona graduating with a degree in Environmental Studies and Sociopolitical Theory. After graduation he started a career in the environmental movement where he spent much of his time behind a desk hiring photographers for outdoor assignments in the mountains of western Oregon and Washington. At some point, Michael reached his “behind the desk” limit and turned his career inside out. Instead of hiring photographers, he decided to become one. He attended the Ohio University School of Visual Communication and then took a contract position at the Oregonian in Portland, Oregon where he worked, and learned from an amazing group of photographers and editors.
In 2007 relocated to Mumbai, India. He has worked globally and in most every facet of photography. In India he was hired for a range of projects including commercial, fashion, editorial and daily photojournalism assignments for magazines and newspapers. He has continued working on a wide range of commercial and editorial photography since his return to New York in 2010.
When he is not traveling on assignment, Michael lives in New York with his wife, Jen and their four (yes, four) cats. He enjoys old cameras, long walks on the beach, fancy hotels and a really good slice of pizza.
